As you plan your trip to Isle Garden, as Kauai is also called, keep these few facts in mind, and your trip is likely to considerably eased.

First, as much as possible, book your travel and accommodation early in advance. Like all great travel destinations, Kauai experiences seasonal highs and lows, and if you wait for too long you might be subjected to high rates or find your best hotel/resort already fully booked.

Kauai has a number of good hotels and resorts. Do your homework and shop for the best deal. If you are planning for a longer visit, consider using a resort home, which is cheaper and considerably more comfortable than a hotel in the longer run.

Kauai's is served by Lihue island, from which United Airlines, US airlines and Alaska airlines operate daily flights to mainland USA. The airport is also home to the numerous choppers that are used to tour the island. An aerial tour of Kauai aboard a chopper is described as a remarkable activity, and is not particularly costly.

The main spoken language here is English. There is also a considerable number of Japanese in Kauai.

Some international travelers to Kauai may need a US visa to visit. Consult your nearest US embassy for current information on this.

Only less than 10 percent of Kauai is covered by roads, and the best way to get a proper tour of the island is by boat or chopper. These are not very costly, and offer true value for money. There are also taxis and car rental facilities on the island.

The unit of currency here is the US Dollar. Major cards are accepted in some establishments, but it is important to have some hard cash when to going to the more remote locations.

Carry light clothing for the warm days, and some light jackets or sweaters for the nights. Be prepared for frequent rains, especially if you are traveling to the Northern side of the island, which is home to Waialeale, reportedly the earth's wettest spot.
