There is consensus that only an extremely beautiful place can be chosen as the setting to over 70 movies. One of such places is Kauai in Hawaii, which was the main setting for the 'Jurassic Park' blockbuster, Fantasy island, and scores of other successful movies. Kauai is indeed the fantasy island for any sightseer, and many first time visitors find it hard to believe the island is actually a real-life scene on our planet.
Kauai is one big lush garden, leading to its also being called the 'Isle garden'. Kauai's lushness can be explained by its raininess, it being host to Waialeale, reportedly the world's wettest spot. This wetness gives rise to the scenic Weilua River, with its breathtaking waterfalls. The best time to catch these waterfalls at their headiest is during the winter months, when it rains hardest in Kauai. Kauai's lushness also makes it great for hiking and camping activities.
Then there is Kauai's wildlife. A tour to Kauai won't be complete without a visit to its Huleia National Wildlife refuge, home to a great array of tropical animals and many bird species not commonly found in more temperate climes. Another funny kind of 'wild' animals you won't miss to see on your visit to Kauai is its thousands of roosters and hens that roam the island. There are various accounts of how Kauai came to have so many 'wild' cocks and hens, with some saying that the birds were part of a poultry cargo aboard a ship that was wrecked near the island. They have since multiplied, and Kauai is now home to thousands of ‘wild chicken.’
Another sight of note is the Waimea Canyon, also nicknamed the 'Grand Canyon of the Pacific.’ This is located on the western side of the island and its grandeur makes it the subject of many a camera click.
Some of Kauai's most beautiful beaches include the 'Mahaulepu Beach' and the 'Shipwreck Beach'. Both are great locations for swimming and diving. It also near here that you can catch a sight of a whale, the world's largest animal and actually snorkel with it, all at a very nominal cost.
While in Kauai, you will also want to visit it's olden lighthouse at Kilauea, and possibly catch an Hawaiian cultural event at Kauai's 'Coconut Beach', north of the isle.
